Overview of the World « Thread Started on Feb 23, 2009, 1:23am »
The world bears some similarities to that of today’s world. However, there are some distinct differences to keep in mind.
World Economy
The world’s economy is nearly crippled from a global depression the world is currently experiencing. A few, select, countries now stand out amongst the rest as capitals of trade. Like today, the dollar and Euro are the main currencies of trade. Unlike today, they are almost the only form of money currently in use.
Massive amounts of unemployment plague Earth in today’s world. An ever-growing lower class and un-heard-of amount of 3rd world countries are prominent now. This has created a pickle for the stronger countries that, when compared to today, are weaker than ever before.
In today’s world, a few business leaders now run the world’s affairs. These rich leaders grow fewer and fewer with every year and the poor grow, consistently, in numbers as time goes on.
Overall, the world is in a slow state of inevitable decline that seems to have doomed the world to a darker future.
Civil Rights and Liberties
Civil rights and liberties are laughed at now. Freedoms were enjoy in our time such as freedom of speech and press are no more. This is done so that governments can watch over their citizens and ensure that terrorist activities are not taken part in.
Overall, Civil Rights and Liberties are ignored and countries are allowed to control their citizen's lives.
War and Terrorism
The majority of war is no longer raging between countries. It is now being fought against terrorism, or, at least, what a country perceives as terrorism.
Unlike what we believe as terrorism today, terrorism has become the act of fighting against large corporations in any manner. For example, forming a company that slowly becomes more and more successful at an alarming rate can be considered terrorism.
Overall, war and terrorism are based in the world of money rather than the physical world and environment.
International Relations and Policy
International Relations and Policy is, at best, a joke. Even Europeans no longer take the UN very seriously. The mere thought of a serious political relationship with another country is put down and considered terrorism.
Treaties and such are now being ignored as countries pull their citizen's natural rights and liberties and no other country is stepping in to assist the citizens. International policy has turned from a decent system of honor and respect to acting in one's one selfish interests and ambitions.
Overall, International Relations and Policy is ignored and rarely thought of.
Work Force and Slavery
The work force is finding itself growing smaller and smaller in today's society. The standard 40-hour work week we, in today's world, know and love is no more. 80-hour work weeks are common and seen as almost standard. The minimum wage laws are either ignored or thought little of. However, people tolerate this lack of respect for the common enployee because they could easily face terrorist charges if they resist them in any way. Labor unions have been dissolved by law about 5 years ago.
In the developing and developed nations of the world, children can easily find themselves in the workplace rather than school. The needy are taken enormous advantage of and all forms of bosses respecting the humanity of their employees is no longer seen as mandatory.
The slave trade is brought back to life in today's world. The slave trade is now done, rather than Africans or prisoners of war, to all criminals. No matter what crime you have performed, you have the potential the become a slave. Common crimes include the inability to pay taxes and larceny. Slavery has become the backbone of the workforce.
Overall, the work force is becoming a dying race and slavery is very real.
Medical and War Technology
Hospitals and clinics are rare now. Few people can afford a proper health system. Only the filthy rich have the money to properly care for themselves and their family. Health care is no longer mandatory in all countries and medicine is very rare and expensive.
As for war technology, countries have begun to develop ever-more powerful bombs and guns in paranoia of an upcoming global war.
Overall, health care is too expensive for the masses and war technology is under-development for fear of conflict.
Environmental Affairs and Protection
Environment protection laws are ignored.
Religion
Since the beginning of the economic end and decay, religious extremist groups are on the rise
